Additional parking is on the horizon for visitors to our Fredericksburg Branch! Starting this month, the City of Fredericksburg will begin construction on a brand-new lot, which will create an entrance and exit off Sophia Street and double the number of available parking spaces from 29 to 58. Most of the landscaping already in place will be maintained, but, by the time the lot is complete, there will be approximately 26 additional trees and 40 additional shrubs around the lot. There will be no impact on the sidewalk or the memorial garden already in place immediately behind the building.
As with any construction project, there will be some inevitable disruptions. The book return has been relocated to a temporary spot on the sidewalk near the rear atrium entrance. The book return can be reached by car, but is accessible only from the passenger-side window. In the completed lot, it will be on an island that can be accessed by the driver. If you arrive on a day that the book return is blocked from vehicular traffic and need assistance, please call us directly at 540-372-1144 ext. 7200. A staff member will come to your car to get your items to return.
Several of the parking lot lights will be removed before being relocated. At any time, our Security Officers are happy to walk you to your car.
Please bear with us during those times when the parking in the lot is limited or completely unavailable. It won’t be long before parking at the Fredericksburg Branch will be a breeze! The construction project is expected to be completed in the summer.
