In Sergio Ruzzier's The Real Story, opens a new window, grumpy Cat comes home to a broken cookie jar and no cookies in sight. Mouse, looking innocent, tells Cat that the cookies ran away. When Cat doesn’t believe that, Mouse says it was actually a green, slimy monster. Mouse’s story gets more outrageous with each retelling. Frustrated, Cat demands the “real story” and is sorely disappointed. So much so that Cat asks Mouse for another story, to which Mouse says, yes--and asks for another cookie. This is a great picture book to talk about storytelling and letting your imagination go wild. The artist’s signature pen, ink, and watercolor illustrations and sly humor are sure to delight readers of all ages.
Ruzzier’s other books, opens a new window are also fully illustrated with short texts and abundant context clues, making them perfect for emerging readers.
